Continuity Planning Offering

WASHINGTON -- Bell Atlantic CommGuard has added the expertise of
WarRoom Research to provide commercial and government organizations
with the best continuity planning and disaster recovery products and
services available.
WarRoom Research is a well-respected specialty company that, among
other things, designs, builds and equips portable crisis management centers
known as "war rooms." WarRoom Research recently collaborated with the
U.S. Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations to determine
how much damage hackers could do to the National Information
Infrastructure. The result of its work raised lawmakers' awareness of how
vulnerable computer networks can be and led to the creation of the
Manhattan Cyber Project, one of the largest public/private collaborations
on network security ever undertaken.
Bell Atlantic CommGuard will use WarRoom Research to provide an array
of sophisticated computer network and information security services to
customers:
- Risk Assessment: Identifying threats and vulnerabilities to information
networks and other critical infrastructure systems as well as providing
recommendations on how to protect intellectual property and other
assets from being targeted. - Penetration Testing: Analyzing information networks to determine
how susceptible they are to internal and external abuse. - Intrusion Detection: Monitoring information networks for break-ins
and misuse, and providing options to link intrusion detection to a war
room to visualize network operations and monitor overall security. - Incident Response: Responding to an intrusion into information
networks to assess and repair the damage, including investigative
support such as computer forensics. - Malicious Logic Recovery: Restoring computer files that have been
attacked and damaged by viruses and other malicious programs. - War Room Operations: Designing, building and equipping portable
decision support centers for managing crises, and providing war room
models for natural and man-made disasters such as adverse weather
conditions and the Y2K emergency. - Awareness and Training Programs: Guidance and instruction in
safeguarding information networks and managing war rooms.
"Customers will have the products and services they need to plan for and
recover from disasters, as well as the security and decision support systems
needed to effectively manage any crisis," said Don Withers, vice president
of information safeguards for WarRoom Research.
"This partnership allows us to be even more responsive to our customers,"
added Mike Braham, director of CommGuard Services for Bell Atlantic.
"These capabilities strengthen the technologies and services of the team
and enable us to provide a mobile decision-making environment for
continuity and disaster recovery planning."
Bell Atlantic assembled the CommGuard team in June 1997 as a single
source for commercial and government organizations to develop and
execute continuity and disaster recovery plans, thus eliminating the need
for organizations to contact multiple vendors. The Bell Atlantic
CommGuard team consists of alliances with a variety of companies, each of
which provides a different strength in preparedness and recovery. "We
provide the strength of many, with the convenience of a single point of
contact," said Braham.
In addition to WarRoom Research, CommGuard has alliances with nine
other partners: Advanced Logic Systems, which supplies office automation
systems and information services; American Power Conversion, for
uninterruptable power supplies; Comdisco, for hot and alternate sites,
consulting and software planning tools; Distributed Call System, which
provides a network-based virtual call center; Octel, for voice messaging
and backup systems; RiskWatch, Inc., for security risk analysis; Systems
Engineering International, for power engineering; SpectraLink, for
campus/building wireless systems, and Teloquent, for distributed call center
solutions.
Government customers may obtain CommGuard products and services
through several existing government contracts. Complete information on
CommGuard products and services are available on Bell Atlantic's Web
