PRAGUE, Czech Republic -- EuroTel Praha, one of the Czech Republic's most successful companies, today announced it has shut down illegal attempts to compromise its popular prepaid "GO" cards, by adding another layer of protection in its anti-fraud
arsenal.
EuroTel was able to limit its recent encounter with criminals to fewer than 40 cards of its more than 1.8 million cards sold to date. The company verified the fraud, identified a solution, and changed out its prepaid card stock in all EuroTel brand st
ores in less than three weeks.
"Being the market leader means we not only need to provide customers with the best wireless value, we need to back that value up with measures that ensure our customers' continued trust in our products and services," said EuroTel Deputy Managing Direct
or Alexander Winkler.
Although it is unlikely, added Winkler, any customer who is experiencing difficulty activating a prepaid card and thinks it could be compromised should contact EuroTel's customer care department by calling *88 from their mobile phone or go to one of Eu
roTel's 50 brand stores throughout the country. Customer care representatives can then trace the fraud and help customers quickly get a free replacement.
"It all comes down to this: Fraud is a crime, and EuroTel will use every means available to catch these criminals and prosecute them to the full extent of the law. To this point, the appropriate authorities are involved," said Winkler.
EuroTel Praha Ltd is the Czech Republic's largest wireless service provider with more than 810,000 customers as of August 1st, 1999, and has built one of the country's top five brand names. The company provides voice and data services and recently lau
