WELLSBURG, W.Va. -- Civic Development Group, a Hopelawn, N.J.-based
telemarketing company, today announced that it will locate a new
center here, creating 200 jobs. Wellsburg is located along the Ohio
River in West Virginia's northern panhandle, about 50 miles from
Pittsburgh.
The center, which is scheduled to open next month, will be located on
Charles Street in downtown Wellsburg.
Civic Development Group is a full-service telemarketing company that
provides direct sales, fundraising, lead generation and qualification
services. It also conducts educational seminars.
The firm has approximately 2,200 employees at a number of branch
offices, including centers in Huntington and Parkersburg. When the
Wellsburg center is fully staffed, Civic Development Group's work force
in West Virginia will approach 1,000. In addition to New Jersey and
West Virginia, the company also has operations in Kansas, North
Carolina and Texas.
"Civic Development is truly a leader in West Virginia's growing
teleservices industry. We are pleased that the company has chosen the
Northern Panhandle as the site for its third West Virginia facility,"
said Gov. Cecil H. Underwood. "Civic Development's presence in
Wellsburg will create new economic opportunities for the residents of
Brooke County and the Ohio Valley region."
"I'm proud Bell Atlantic could play a key role in attracting this
business to Wellsburg," said Bell Atlantic President and CEO Dennis
Bone. "I would like to think their choice was at least partly based on
the availability of a state-of-the-art digital telecommunications
network. Our infrastructure rivals the best in the country."
Bell Atlantic's Office of the Future project, whose mission is to
recruit information-intensive businesses to West Virginia, has led to
the creation of more than 15,000 jobs in fields such as data
processing, teleservices and customer service since its inception in
1990.
Civic Development Group currently is recruiting full- and part-time
telemarketing service representatives. The firm will offer
competitive wages and benefits. Some of the management positions will
be filled locally with individuals who have relevant supervisory
experience.
