Tracking and preparing for Hurricane Dorian.

On Wednesday night, a state of emergency was declared in Florida as Hurricane Dorian continues to gain strength on its approach to the eastern coast of the state. The National Hurricane Center stated, “Dorian is expected to become a major hurricane on Friday, and remain an extremely dangerous hurricane through the weekend.” In preparation for the storm, Verizon teams are on the ground in Florida to make sure customers, first responders, and businesses can stay connected. Verizon’s full suite of emergency network vehicles, including satellite PICO trailers, are ready to keep the network running strong during and following the storm. Get the latest updates on our Emergency Resource Center. Also, Verizon’s employee relief fund, VtoV, is ready to help out any V Teamers who are displaced from their homes and need assistance.

The week in review.

On Monday, we had a special edition of Up To Speed from Sayler Park Middle School in Cincinnati featuring Jewel, a student there. This year, 100% of students at the school will have home internet access through their tablets, thanks to Verizon Innovative Learning.

Then on Tuesday, we announced that we’ve helped customers avoid over 1.5 billion spam calls this year through services like our free Call Filter app.

For the rundown on Wednesday, we covered exciting tech stories across the country, from underwater robots in upstate New York, to meatless ‘chicken’ nuggets in Atlanta.

And Thursday was all about the music. We brought you footage from the Shawn Mendes pop-up in NYC, and an Of Monsters and Men concert presented by Verizon Up.
