Troubleshooting: Using Safe Mode with Android™ (2:38)
If you've ever had computer issues, you may have booted it into Safe Mode for troubleshooting.
The good news is you can use this same tool on your Android Smartphone to troubleshoot.
In this video, we'll talk about the benefits of safe mode and how to use it.
Safe mode allows only essential device functions to run, without actually removing any of your personal information!
Any apps that have been added, will be disabled to determine if there is a problem with the operating system. Since you don't lose any settings or saved data when placing your phone into safe mode, it's a great step to take to determine if a downloaded app is causing your issue.
So, how do you get your phone into safe mode? If your device is powered on, it is as easy as pressing the power button then holding the Power off option until you're prompted to "reboot to safe mode."
Your phone already off? No problem! You can place your phone in safe mode while powering it on.
This is usually done using a button combination, like holding the volume down and power button simultaneously. However, the exact combination may vary by device.

Once your phone is in safe mode, you can still perform basic functions like making and receiving calls, browsing the web, and checking email.
Now, is the problem still happening? If your device works without issues in Safe Mode, you'll know that one of your downloaded apps is the problem.
The best way to proceed is to return your device to standard mode by restarting your phone.
This will allow you to access your apps and data that were temporarily disabled.
Now, delete the apps you have added since experiencing difficulties. This is a great opportunity to remove the apps you aren't using anymore!
The next step is just as easy. Simply add back the apps you want to keep one at a time, still paying attention to how your phone performs.
By following this troubleshooting method, you can easily identify which app is the root cause of the issue.
Safe mode is exactly that, a safe way to test your phone without experiencing downtime or worrying about losing pictures, contacts, or other data.
However, if your device still has issues while in Safe Mode, a Factory Data Reset might be your next step.
