Actiontec router for High Speed Internet (DSL)

Check the sticker on your Actiontec GT784WNV for the default Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password (WPA2/WPA/WEP key).

Your current Wi-Fi name and password are also stored in your Actiontec GT784WNV. You can find them by accessing the security settings where they are stored.

To display your SSID and WPA2/WPA/WEP:

• Enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address field of your browser.
• Enter your router username and password.
• From the top navigation, click the Wireless Setup. The Basic Settings page opens.
• From the left navigation, click Wireless Security.
• Under Select Security Type, select WPA-WPA2-Personal from the drop-down.
• Under Security Encryption Type, select Both from the drop-down.
• Enter your security key/passphrase:
  • To use the default key: Select the Use Default Security Key/Passphrase field radio button.
  • To use a custom key: Select the Use Custom Key / Passphrase radio button and enter your custom security key.
• Click Apply to save your changes

If you didn't change the default password when you set up your router, it may have been changed to your router's serial number to provide greater security. You can find your router's serial number on a label affixed to the bottom or back of your router.

If you can't remember your username or password, you must reset your default settings and reconfigure your home network.

The Actiontec GT784WNV security screens and prompts may vary slightly from these directions depending on when you purchased your gateway and the firmware loaded onto it.

To change your Actiontec GT784WNV password:

• Open your web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address field
• Enter your router username and password and click Continue. (Note: Your default username is admin if you didn't change it when you configured your network)
• Click the Advanced Setup tab
• From the left navigation under security heading, select Admin Password
• Enter a new password in the Admin Password field
• Enter your new password again in the retype Admin New Password field to confirm that you entered it correctly
• Click Apply to save your changes and to apply the new settings to your modem

When you reset your Actiontec GT784WNV settings, remember your default SSID and network encryption key is also restored. If you have a home network, you must reconfigure your Actiontec GT784WNV to match the previous settings that were assigned to all the other devices on your wireless network. Otherwise, no other network devices will be recognized.

To reset your Actiontec GT784WNV to factory default settings:

• Open your web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address field
• Enter your username and password and click Continue. (Note: Your default username is admin if you didn't change it when you configured your network)
• From the top navigation, select Utilities
• From the modem utilities navigation, select Restore Defaults
• From this screen, you can restore the gateway’s wireless settings, firewall settings or all settings to their factory default state
• Press the appropriate button to restore your settings. During this process, the gateway’s power light will flash and the gateway is disabled until after rebooting. Your Actiontec GT784WNV will now use the default settings for the network configuration

If you’re unable to access the router’s internal interface, perform the following steps: using a paperclip, press in and hold the reset button for 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, release the reset button and turn the power off to the router. Leave the power off for 20 seconds before turning it back on.

The router status light indicators are used to help troubleshoot connectivity issues.

If the light is solid green, the router power is on.

If there is no light, confirm that the power switch on the back panel of the router is in the "on" position and the power cord is securely connected to the electrical outlet.

If the light is solid green, the connection between the Actiontec GT784WNV router and Verizon High Speed Internet is established.

If it is flashing green, a connection to Verizon is in the process of being established.

If it is flashing red, a connection to Verizon cannot be established. We recommend:

• Confirm all the cables are securely connected to the back of the gateway
• Ensure the phone line coming into the back of the gateway does not have a filter installed on it and connects directly to a wall jack
• Confirm all phone filters are installed except for the line to the gateway router

If the light is solid green, the gateway is connected to the Internet.

If the light is solid red, the gateway is not connected to the Internet.

If there is no light, the connection to Verizon High Speed Internet is not present or the modem is in bridge mode. To learn more, check out the user guide.

If the light is green, the Ethernet connection between your device and the router is established.

If there is no light, the connection is not established.

If the light is solid green, this indicates the wireless function is operating correctly.

If the light is flashing green, this indicates wireless traffic is passing between the router and your Wi-Fi device.
