Can't Connect, Giving Up

I've spent nearly 2 hours trying to get two of these to connect and failed. I have a mesh network broadcasting both 2.5GHz and 5GHz and I've tried every online recommendation in an attempt to force my network to only broadcast in 2.5GHz so I can set these up. How have they not made this device "smart" enough to deal with what is a very common home networking setup? I've given up and will be returning them both.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a few Wemo products and this really is next level in that it is outdoor rated. For the Christmas lights or to run on the end of an extension cord for inflatables. I use one for a bunch of string lights on the deck so they are on a dusk to dawn timer and also in our shed for larger family gatherings. Setup takes 2 minutes of that. Could not be easier.
