What are Parental Controls?

Parental controls are a suite of tools and features available on the Verizon Home app designed to help parents manage their children's use of router-connected devices. Parental controls also include features to manage online content accessible from router-connected devices. They provide a way for parents to set boundaries and guide their children's digital experiences in a safe and age-appropriate manner.

Who’s eligible for Parental Controls?

Verizon Fios internet customers with select routers are eligible for Parental Controls.

Eligible Verizon Router models include:

Fios Router (G3100 model)
Verizon Router (CR1000A and CR1000B models)

How much does Parental Controls cost?

Parental Controls are included at no cost with your Fios Home Internet service for eligible routers. You can enable and manage Parental Controls through the Verizon Home app.

What types of Parental Controls are available?

Available Parental Controls include:

Content Filters - filter by age group or content type. Google Safe Search and YouTube Restricted Mode are also available to select.
Pause Internet - easily pause the internet for any of your profiles.
Schedules - select days of the week and times when content can be restricted.
Daily Limits - allows you to set total internet time across all devices on the profile.
Bonus time allows you to add additional time, valid for the current day only.

Good to know: Once you add bonus time for the current day, it can't be reduced or removed.

How do I enroll in Parental controls?

To enroll in Parental Controls:

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll down to Parental Controls.
Select Enroll for $0/month.
Review the subscription details.
Select Enroll.
Read and agree to the Terms of service.
Select Place order.

You’ve enrolled in parental controls.

Good to know: It may take a few hours for us to enable your router with the Parental Controls feature. You will receive a notification in the Verizon Home app when it’s ready.

How do I create a Parental Control profile?

Create Parental Control Profiles for people or rooms in your home. Add the associated devices to the profiles to manage your Parental Controls.

Here’s how to set up a Parental Control profile:

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll to Parental Controls.
Select + Profile.
Select a photo and follow the on-screen instructions to add a photo.
Assign a name to the profile.
Choose a color.
Select Next.
Assign at least 1 device to the profile by selecting the check box next to the device.
Select Next.
Choose an age-based content filter (optional).
Select Set up later if that’s your preference.

You've just created a Parental Control profile.

How do I view all of my Parental Controls profiles?

Here’s how to view your parental controls:

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll to Parental Controls.
Select All profiles.
Select which profile you’d like to view.

How can I change a Parental Controls profile?

Here’s how to manage a specific parental control profile:

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll to Parental controls.
Select the profile you’d like to edit.
Select Edit at the top right corner.

You may now edit the name and photo of this profile.

How do I unenroll from Parental Controls?

If you’d like to unenroll from Parental Controls:

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll to Parental controls.
Select All profiles.
Scroll down and select Unenroll from parental controls.
Review if you're sure you want to unenroll.
Select Unenroll.

You’re now unenrolled from parental controls.

How do I add or remove devices from an existing profile?

Here’s how to add or remove devices from an existing profile:

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll to Parental controls.
Select the profile you’d like to edit.
Select Devices under the Settings & controls menu.
Use the check boxes to select or deselect the device(s) you’re editing.
Select Done.

You’ve just edited devices on a Parental Control profile.

How do I use Parental Controls to pause/unpause the internet?

Here’s how to pause/unpause the internet:

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll to Parental controls.
Select the profile you’d like to pause or unpause.
Select Pause / unpause Internet.

When paused, the profile will display a pause button icon.

How do I view the profile’s usage?

You can view the usage across the entire profile, for the current day, yesterday, the last 7 days and the last 30 days.

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll to Parental controls.
Select the profile you’d like to view the usage for.
Select View usage.
Select the usage interval.
1. Current day: hourly
2. Yesterday: hourly
3. Last 7 days: daily
4. Last 30 days: daily

How can I filter content?

Filtering Content allows you to block content based on preset age groups or by specific apps, websites and categories. Google Safe Search and YouTube Restricted Mode are also available to select.

Here’s how to set up content filters:

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll to Parental controls.
Select the profile you’d like to edit.
Select Filter content
Select the edit pencil in Age group > choose your desired age group, or,
Under Categories & apps, you can
1. Select or search for specific apps and websites.
2. Selecting the entire category blocks all the apps and websites listed and some additional apps not shown.
3. Add your own to always block or always allow under Individual websites. Be as specific as possible.
4. Remember to select Apply or Save for your changes to save.

Good to know: Changing the age group filter resets all of the content filters for that age group, including any you may have edited.

How do I set up a Daily Time Limit and add Bonus Time?

Daily Time Limit allows you to set total internet time across all devices on the profile. Bonus Time allows you to add additional time, valid for the current day only.

Good to know: once you add Bonus Time for the current day, it can't not be reduced or removed.

Here’s how to set up the profile’s first Daily Limit:

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll to Parental controls.
Select the profile you’d like to edit.
Choose Daily Limit under Settings & controls.
Select Get started.
1. This is only visible when setting up the profile’s first daily limit.
2. Otherwise, select Add Daily Limit.
Select the day and time limit.
Select Save.

Good to know: you can turn the daily limit on or off as needed.

How do I set schedules?

You can schedule internet downtime for all devices across each profile. You can set a schedule in the School, Focus time and Bedtime categories. Here’s how to set schedules:

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll to Parental controls.
Select the profile you’d like to edit.
Choose Set Schedules under Settings & controls.
Select School time, Focus time and/or Set bedtime.
Select the days and times.
Select Save.

Good to know: You can allow select apps to operate during restricted times. Select the category > choose the apps you’d like to allow > select Save.

How do I delete a schedule?

Here’s how to delete a schedule:

Open the Verizon Home app.
Scroll to Parental controls.
Select the profile you’d like to edit.
Choose Set Schedules under Settings & controls.
Select the specific schedule you’d like to delete.
Select Delete School time, Focus time or Bedtime.
Confirm you would like to Delete the schedule.

Good to know: You can temporarily turn off a schedule rather than deleting the schedule if you would like to use it later.

The device I want to manage is not displayed. What can I do?

If you don’t see the device you want to manage in Parental Controls, check the following:

Verify that you’re able to connect to your Wi-Fi.
- If you’re not able to connect to the internet, use our Verizon Troubleshooter for support.
Validate that the device you’d like to manage is connected to your router.
Check that you have the most current version of the Verizon Home app.
