Wireless service while traveling outside the US:
Before you travel, we recommend using our Trip Planner to see what services are available and the rates and coverage available. We recommend you visit this site before each trip as the coverage areas and rates are subject to change without notice. When you connect to a foreign carrier's network, we will send you text messages or otherwise communicate with you to explain how to dial for the country you're in; the rates you will pay to use services there and, if applicable, how you can request a new or modified international travel plan. When traveling some services, such as domestic data applications, voicemail or call waiting, may not be available or work as expected. Please be sure to turn data off in your settings menu if you do not plan to use data while traveling internationally. CDMA-only devices will not work outside the US, Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands.
If you are on a plan that has Mexico and Canada talk, text and data roaming allowances as part of your plan, you can use your talk, text and data allowances in Mexico and Canada without a daily fee. A 4G or 5G World device is required. You may receive compressed versions of files – including video files – you stream or download, which will help reduce the amount of data you use. To determine whether your plan has Mexico and Canada talk, text, and data roaming included as part of your plan, view your plan details in My Verizon.
Travel Pass: A 4G or 5G World device is required. TravelPass® is not available on all plans. Calls to International numbers, other than the country traveling in, will be charged standard international long distance rates. You may receive compressed versions of files – including video files – you stream or download, which will help reduce the amount of data you use. TravelPass service may be removed, or data speeds may be slowed, if international talk, text, or data usage exceeds 50% of total talk, text or data usage over any 60 day period.
Setting up Your Account for International Travel: To use International Services while traveling outside of the US, your account needs to be set up with an international travel plan. With a 4G or 5G World device you can make calls within the country you are in or back to the US without an international travel plan and you will be charged on a per minute basis. We recommend that you add an international travel plan through "Manage International Services" in My Verizon or contact a Verizon Wireless representative by calling 800-922-0204 to ensure your device is ready for international travel.
You can automatically add TravelPass to your account. Without the International Services Enabled feature you can make calls within the country you are in and back to the US. Other international travel plans require International Services Enabled and this can be added to your account if your account has been active for 34 days and is in good standing. International Services Enabled can be added via self-serve tools. If you have been a customer for less than 90 days, we will need to perform a manual credit review before you can use these services. If your account situation changes, we may remove these services from your account without notice.
Upon termination of your Verizon wireless service, please destroy your SIM Card.
Charges When You Are Traveling: Information about how we charge for each of our international services is listed below. If you don't have a plan or package that includes an allowance for usage outside the US, your usage will be charged per minute, text and megabyte. We may send you text alerts when your international travel usage reaches certain dollar or usage thresholds and we may limit your service if your charges become excessive. These are courtesy alerts and we can't guarantee you will receive them or that we will limit what you are billed. If you are traveling near a country border, you may connect to a cell site located in a neighboring country and be billed at that country's rates.
Voice Calls: We offer voice service in more than 200 countries. If you do not subscribe to a plan or feature that provides otherwise, when you make calls while traveling outside the US, you will be charged on a per minute basis and we encourage you to visit our International Trip Planner before you travel to learn the rates in the countries you'll be visiting.
Wi-Fi Calling when abroad: Wi-Fi calling can be used to call the US at no additional charge. Wi-Fi calling to a country other than the US will be charged International Long Distance rates, regardless of your International Travel plan.
Data Usage: If you are planning to use data services while traveling outside the US, we strongly recommend that you add TravelPass or an International Travel Plan to your account to avoid Pay as you Go charges. If you are not planning to use data services while you are traveling, you may want to turn them off before you travel outside the US as many devices and applications transmit and receive data without user intervention and can generate unexpected charges. You may also avoid data charges by using Wi-Fi service, where available, while you are traveling internationally.
International Messaging (while outside the US): Before you travel, we encourage you to visit our International Trip Planner for current messaging rates in the destinations you'll be traveling to. When you send or receive video and picture messages, you will also be charged for the international travel data usage associated with sending or receiving the message. This usage will be charged at the applicable International Travel Pay As You Go rate unless you subscribe to TravelPass or an International Travel Plan.
Cruise ship roaming: You can make and receive calls, send and receive text messages and use data on select cruise lines. See Cruise ship plan information here. These rates apply only in international waters on the cruise ship. When you are in port or in an area served by a foreign wireless carrier, you will be billed at the applicable rates for that country.
If you have purchased Cruise Daily Pass, your session begins when you do one of the following:
- Cruise Ship and Airplane Roaming:Make or answer a phone call.
- Envía un mensaje de texto.
- You use data (including background data eg software updates, app refreshes and syncing as well as social media notifications). If you don't want a session to be triggered by background data please turn off cellular data on your device.
In-flight roaming: You can make and receive calls, send and receive text messages and use data on select airplanes. If data service is available we’ll send you a text offering the In-flight Daily Pass plan when you board.
24-hour In-flight Daily Pass session will begin when you use data, including background data e.g. software updates, app refreshes and syncing as well as social media notifications.
