Verizon Smart Family™ Time of Day Restrictions (1:58)
Verizon Smart Family is your partner in parenting.
You can parent smarter in the digital age by setting boundaries for your child's calls, text and data use.
To get started, pair the Verizon Smart Family app on your phone with the Companion app on your child's phone.
From the very first screen, you can take back family time by pausing your child's internet access right from your phone.
With time restrictions, you can disable texts, calls and data during school to minimize distractions and during night hours to support a good night's sleep.
If you have your phones paired, your kids won't be able to connect to Wi-Fi during the restricted times, either.
Data limits let you decide how many gigabytes of data your child can use each month.
Once the limit is reached, they won't be able to use data until the next billing cycle. Or you have the option to get an alert but not block data when their limit is reached.
You and your child will get text alerts when they reach certain percentages of data use. If you want to restrict kids' spending, set a monthly dollar limit on purchases like apps, games, music and more.
If it's a purchase billed directly to your Verizon account, it counts toward the limit. So you'll still want to be on the lookout for anything not billed to Verizon, additional data purchases or monthly recurring fees for certain services.
Put a cap on monthly text messages to keep your child from chatting too much.
Texts sent in messaging apps other than the one that comes with your child's phone can't be limited here, but you can block them in the content filters section of the app.
Cut down on calls by setting a monthly limit on the number of minutes your child can use each billing cycle.
You and your child will get a text when they're 15 minutes from the limit and you'll get one if they reach it.
No matter what restrictions you set, your child can always call or text trusted contacts, visit trusted websites and call 911.
Make sure to include yourself as a trusted contact, so they can always get in touch with you anytime, too.
