Verizon grants suspension of service for military deployment in accordance with the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and various state laws. SCRA permits termination of your contract for service without certain fees or charges and holding of your phone number, if you receive orders to relocate to a location that’s outside our coverage area for a period of not less than 90 days (30 days if you are National Guard under certain state laws).

Under the federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and some state laws, if eligible, you may ask us to hold your phone number. To hold your phone number, we make your line inactive by suspending service for a maximum of 3 years and minimum of 90 days.

During the service suspension:

• The suspended line(s) won’t be able to access, make, or receive calls on the Verizon mobile network.
• The suspended line won't be billed any charges, including any charges associated with an active device payment agreement for the inactive line(s).
  • Device protection coverage and billing, if applicable, is also suspended until you reconnect the line.
  • You may receive a partial bill for the duration of the month that your line was active before the suspension for military deployment.

Good to know: If your phone had a lock before the suspension, it follows the Verizon Device Unlocking Policies.

Keep in mind: There may be other charges on the account, unrelated to the suspended line, while you are deployed. You can appoint an Account Manager, provide a Power of Attorney, or reassign Account Ownership to address any account issues that arise.

• Recurring subscription charges that can be used on any line or by any user on the account (e.g., streaming services like Disney+, Verizon Home Device Protect, etc.) continue to bill during this suspension period, unless canceled or deleted.
• If you have multi-device protection on your account, billing continues unless all lines are suspended.

Important: This suspension is only available for voice-capable devices. We don't hold phone numbers for non-voice devices (e.g. mobile hotspot device, etc.).

You must reconnect service before the 3 years and 90 days are up. If you don't reconnect before then:

• The line is automatically disconnected.
• You lose the telephone number associated with your service.
  • You may owe certain accelerated charges associated with a device payment agreement on your next bill.
  • If service is disconnected, we waive any early termination fees.

Service members who may be eligible for suspension for military deployment include:

• Active duty components of the armed service: Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy, Marines and Space Force
• Active-duty commissioned officers of the Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, active service
• Reservists and members of the National Guard may be eligible if called to active duty
• Members of the Foreign Service

If you or a family member on your account qualify for a suspension of service for military deployment, you can:

1. Visit our Suspend Service page in My Verizon to get started.
2. Select the device you want to suspend.
3. Select I will be on military deployment.
4. Select where you are being deployed, branch of service, deployment length and effective suspend date.
5. Verify your military status with ID.me.

If you're unable to suspend your service online, you can email, fax or mail your order to us.

To suspend your service for military deployment through email, fax or mail:

2. Include a copy of your relocation orders, including:
   • Subject: Military Order
   • Customer or Account Name
   • Account Number and Mobile Number

Good to know: The process can take up to 24 hours to complete. Be prepared to provide information from your orders

Even if you don’t qualify for a suspension for military deployment, you may still be able to suspend your line for up to 90 days. Review our Suspend your mobile service page to learn more.

During military deployment suspension Verizon reserves your phone number for a minimum of 90 days to a maximum of 3 years and 90 days.

Good to know: After 3 years and 90 days, the line of service is automatically disconnected and the number is no longer reserved for you.

If you had an active device payment before suspending service and the line is disconnected, the remaining balance of the device agreement is due on your final bill.

Charges for service and features for the suspended line stop while your line is suspended. This includes charges for your device payment agreement.

Note: You may receive a partial bill for the duration of the month that your line was active before the suspension for military deployment.

No, your upgrade eligibility date for your suspended line won't be extended for the time your line is suspended for military deployment.

If you had an active device payment agreement during the term of your suspension, your monthly charges for your device resume once your services are reconnected. Your ability to upgrade is determined based on the number of payments that remain on the agreement.

The federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) provides certain protections to spouses and dependents of service members. If you are a spouse or dependent of a service member that has passed away or was seriously injured while in military service you may:

• Cancel service without an Early Termination Fee.
• Cancel any remaining Device Payment Agreement balances. Requires return of devices in good working condition.

To be eligible to to cancel service and/or device payments, service members:

• Must have passed away or been seriously injured while in military service.
• Must be from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Space Force, Reserves, commissioned corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service.

If you are eligible to cancel and you would like to cancel service:

• Contact Us - Chat, “we call you”  and contact us options.
• Visit us in a Verizon Company Store -  Find a Verizon Company Store near you.
  • Enter your ZIP Code.
  • Make sure you select a “Verizon Company Store” from the available options.

To validate eligibility under the SCRA, provide a copy of one of these:

• Dependent/Rapid ID
• Proof of Tricare Eligibility
• Marriage Certificate
• Birth Certificate
• Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) assignment as a spouse or child

If the service member passed away, include one of these:

• Death Certificate
• Cremation documentation
• Burial permit
• Legal estate documentation
• DD Form 1300 for military

For serious injury, include one of the following:

• Military Doctor Unit Letterhead or civilian doctor letterhead that includes the below:
  • Service member’s name
  • Catastrophically injured / Terminally Ill / Debilitating Condition
• Any military document saying the service member has been catastrophically injured or ill.
• Military documentation showing medical discharge
