Cloud Storage: A Digital Attic for Your Data
Verizon Cloud lets you save your prized photos, videos, music and documents safely and securely.
I like to think of the cloud as a digital attic - an out-of-the-way storage area for all those prom pics, road trip videos and family photo albums you definitely want to keep but don't want taking up precious phone space.
The beauty of the clould is that it also allows you to access all those "attic" files right on your phone or tablet, whenever and wherever you want them. Within seconds you could show an old college friend the photo of your son on the day he lost his first tooth, or queue up a song from the '90s to remind you of your younger, badder self.
And even if looking down memory lane isn't a regular occurence, you'll always want the assurance that your digital stuff is backed up and safe.
I like Verizon Cloud because it's simple. It automatically syncs and securely saves all my important documents - contacts, photos, videos - in one place. Using it is as easy as 1, 2, 3 (and 4, just for good measure).
Step 1: Get ready
To begin using Verizon Cloud, you should probably plug your phone into a power outlet. Uploading content can take a while depending on how much stuff you need to back up, so a steady stream of AC current works best versus battery power. You'll also want to enable Wi-Fi so that you don't use up all the data in your plan as you're transferring files. You'll find the option to turn on Wi-Fi after tapping your phone or tablet's settings icon.
Step 2: Launch the app
The Verizon Cloud app is preloaded on most devices as part of a bundle of Verizon-related apps, so a download may not be required. If you don't have it, you can download the app at Google PlayTM and the Apple® App Store.
You can also retrieve your files with ease on tablets or computers via the Verizon Cloud desktop app.
Step 3: Pick what you're backing up
Once you're in the app, click Get Started. You'll see a menu that lets you choose what you want to back up in the cloud, including contacts, photos, videos, music and documents.
AndroidTM phone users can also save call logs and text messages to Verizon Cloud.
After choosing what you want to back up, hit Next. The app will then ask you for an email address. Enter yours, then hit Next again and the sync will begin.
From that point on, Verizon Cloud will automatically back up your content once a day, although you can perform a manual sync any time.
Step 4: Move your stuff over to your new phone
Verizon Cloud also comes in handy when you buy a new phone, whether it's because you wanted to get your hands on the latest device or you lost or broke your old one. With the press of a button on the app's home screen (Start Transfer), you can move all videos, songs, photos and other keepsakes to your new device.
